How It Went Down - September 9, 2011

BUSY BUSY BUSY these days. Orientation week(s) activities in full-swing on campus and UMFM had a sweet little stage in the hot, hot sun featuring The Eardrums, Enjoy Your Pumas, This Hisses and The Noble Thiefs (many thanks to all of those bands!) and yours truly was working sound / set-up. But I still managed to find time to pack my show with goodness. The big two-night Greg MacPherson Disintegration Blues CD release extravaganza at the West End provided the impetus for openers Jesse Hill and Cannon Bros. to stop in for interviews and live sessions. And A Waste Odyssey came with their instruments this time and blazed through two live songs to promote the I'm Trying Records Showcase at the LO Pub on Saturday September 17th.

Here's what was played:

Set One: 6:30 PM - 7 PM

Washed Out - "Amor Fati" [Sub Pop] Within And Without
Cannon Bros. - "String Lights" [Live at UMFM]
Cannon Bros. - "Take" [Live at UMFM]
Cannon Bros. - "Left In A Hurry" [Live at UMFM]
Interview with Cannon Bros.
Cannon Bros. - "Soft View" [Live at UMFM]
Cannon Bros. - "Just Anybody" [Live at UMFM]

Set Two: 7 PM - 7:30 PM

Jesse Hill - "Since We Last Talked" [Live at UMFM]
Jesse Hill - "Last August's Labour" [Live at UMFM]
Interview with Jesse Hill
Jesse Hill - "Day After Rain" [Live at UMFM]
Jesse Hill - "Do I Look Upon You As I Should" [Live at UMFM]

Set Three: 7:30 PM - 8 PM

Interview with A Waste Odyssey
A Waste Odyssey - "Little Red Car" [Live at UMFM]
A Waste Odyssey - "The Number 96" [Live at UMFM]
Softcore - "Right On Chief" [Unreleased]
Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks - "Stick Figures In Love" [Matador]

This week's another busy one, featuring not one, but two of Hollerado's openers: Young Rival and Wildlife will both be joining me by phone. I'll also be talking to Royal Wood about his sweet new EP. Tune in!
